Fiorella joined the Seahorse Team as an apprentice practitioner in 2017 and has since progressed to the position of HR and Finance Administrator:
“I moved to the UK in 2016 and I started as an au pair, looking after a little girl. After 1 year, in October 2017, I started my apprenticeship with Seahorse Nursery. I worked full time in the baby room. My background in education is a bachelor degree in Psychology from Italy and I worked in an Italian nursery for a few years. Because of a lack of career prospective in Italy, I moved to England.
After a year and a half studying towards my Level 3 qualification in Early Years, I achieved my Level 3 certificate as Early Years Educator and Level 2 Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. I then moved to our other setting, Wimbledon Park, to broaden my experience by working with a different age groups and bring the outstanding practice we achieved at Southfields to the team at Wimbledon Park. I was part of the first Ofsted inspection at Southfields Day Nursery, in November 2018, where we were graded Outstanding in all areas!
After completing my Level 3 I started thinking about my next challenge. Over time I grew a passion for Human Resources and helping the team to succeed by supporting them from a different prospective. I realised I could support the company that had given me so much in terms of support, motivation and challenges by undertaking a new role in human resources. I started part time, I spent half my time teaching in the classroom and the rest, I was learning my new role from the managers and the directors.
Just before the pandemic hit, I started my new role as HR and Finance Admin full time. Some aspects of my job involve: resourcing and talent planning, managing the entire employee cycle in partnership with the mangers, from onboarding to offboarding; managing employee relations alongside management, HR service deliver and information, managing payroll, invoices and direct debit for our clients and government funding. I am 100% fulfilled by my new role and thanks to Seahorse, that believed in me and gave me an opportunity, I am now able work strategically with management to achieve our common goals.”
Charmaine joined the Seahorse team in 2018 and has since taken on the role of full time manager at our Southfields Day Nursery.
“I started my childcare carer in 2008 where I went to college to do my Level 3 and Level 5 in Childcare and Management. Once I completed my level 5, I knew I wanted to make my way to becoming a manager and started my new journey at Seahorse. I started at Seahorse Nursery Southfields in November 2018.
I started my journey as a Deputy Manager in a shared position and moved to Seahorse Nursery Wimbledon Park in April 2019 to become a Deputy Manager on my own. At Wimbledon Park I worked alongside my Manager, Carly, who supported me through my journey in building my knowledge in a senior position.
In 2020, Covid-19 affected us all. I was given the opportunity to support the Seahorse team in Southfields, starting in June 2020 when we re-opened after lockdown. In October 2020, I was promoted to Manager at Seahorse Nursery in Southfields where I continue to further my career with the Seahorse family.”
Natalia joined Seahorse Nursery in the summer of 2017 as a Deputy Room Leader and has since progressed to the role of Deputy Manager.
“I have worked with children since I was 16 years old, volunteering to take disadvantaged children on day trips while on school holidays. When I first came to England, I was a nanny and after starting my own family, I took qualifications in Childcare and Development. I have worked in nursery settings for the past 16 years and started working at Seahorse Nursery in August 2017 as a Deputy Room Leader. In June 2018, I become the Room Leader of the Starfish Room. In November 2020, an opportunity arose for the Deputy Manager position to which I was interested in and applied for to further my career.”
