Wimbledon Park 2 – Day Nursery

Opening our second day care nursery in Wimbledon Park means there’s even more room for love, discovery and fun.

Childcare at Wimbledon Park 2

Since we opened our first Wimbledon Park Day Nursery in 2018 we’ve been thrilled with the response from the local community. The only challenge was that so many families wanted their child to join that we simply couldn’t fit everyone in.

That’s why, in 2021, we launched our second location. As with all our preschools, it’s a place of love, discovery, fun and the forest learning (in Wimbledon Park) that the children enjoy so much.

Where to find our Wimbledon preprep school

Seahorse Nursery Wimbledon Park 2 is located on Arthur Road, less than a minute’s walk from Wimbledon Park Tube Station. If you commute, it’s a wonderful option for quick pick-ups and drop-offs.

You’ll find the nursery, daycare and preparatory school inside the Christ the King church hall, a large and open space with a secure outdoor area for safe, happy adventures.

Activities within our nursery

The hall is separated into distinct sections so that the children have the freedom to choose the activities they would like to participate in and can move freely between each area.

The areas include:

·  A quiet comfy area for reading and reflection
·  A large, carpeted space for group activities like singing and circle time
·  A section for focused education around maths, English, phonics; and
·  An area where activities change each day depending on the topic of the term or interests of the children. This might consist of a whole range of activities including messy play, water play, cutting, sticking and other Montessori-based activities.

Our approach to nursery

Our caring, qualified and friendly staff aim to not only equip your child with the skills needed for school but also for life. While learning, children build independence and social skills through play and first-hand experiences.

Every part of their preschool day follows the Seahorse Nursery approach of ‘Loving, Educational and Fun’. This includes mealtimes, which we treat as social occasions where all children come together with staff to develop healthy eating habits and techniques, good manners and other skills.

The perfect location for childcare in Wimbledon

Because Wimbledon Park 2 is directly opposite our first nursery, we are able to ensure children from both locations get to experience different environments as well as socialise with other children outside of their immediate class – a vital aid to child development.

Our closeness to Wimbledon Park also means we’re able to take the children on exciting, frequent forest school trips, at least weekly but often more depending on the topic. We regularly run a range of additional trips around the local area, including trips to the library, our local care home, dental practice and many more. As well as this, we also welcome a whole range of visitors to our settings, from authors and dentists to the managers who run our local food banks and volunteers from our Seahorse nominated charity, Friends of Adwa. Not forgetting Justin, who visits us every week for music and singing sessions.

Please note that any mixing of classes and trip are dependent on and adapted to Covid-19 restrictions at the time. We always follow our Covid-19 policy.

Education and development

Our child-centred curriculum follows the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage. But because every child is unique, we incorporate a range of teaching styles to encourage them to learn and develop at their own pace.

Teaching styles include Montessori teaching, forest school education, the slow education movement and mindfulness, all of which support not just your child’s learning and development, but their long term well-being.

Our preschool children also take part in INKY SWOT sessions once they move into the Seahorse Room (ages 3 to 5). These sessions are all based on the termly theme the children are working on, and incorporate key aspects, including maths, English and phonics. The aim of our INKY SWOT sessions is school readiness, to prepare your child for their move to their next school and equipping them with all the skills they need.

Loving daycare for your child

We believe a preschool should be many things: a place to learn, a place to grow (literally and emotionally), a place to have fun, make new friends and build confidence in getting to know others.

Most of all though, we believe a day nursery should be a place of love and care – the sort of place where you know your child feels safe, the sort of place they can’t wait to come back to.

Take a look at our testimonials and you’ll see the comments of lots of parents, grateful for the foundation their child has enjoyed during their Seahorse journey.

It’s hard to single out any individual comment out because we’re grateful for every single one of them, but Keighley, Emma’s mother, beautifully summed up the lasting impression we want to make:

“You have created such a warm, safe, happy and nurturing environment and this combined with a stimulating and inspiring curriculum and great teachers makes it a truly wonderful place.”

Meet the Leadership Team

Wimbledon Park 2 – Day Nursery

Harriet Wolfe, Principal

Harriet has been involved with Seahorse Nursery since it opened and made a career change in 2012 to move into teaching full time. She is a school governor for a local primary school. In her spare time she enjoys high altitude trekking, long distance cycling and running to keep fit. Harriet enjoys using her Qualified Teaching Status for Early Years (specialising in birth to five years) and Level 3 NVQ Children's Care, Learning and Development qualification to give children the best start in life.

Wimbledon Park 2 – Day Nursery

Carly Wray, Manager

Carly studied BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies at Roehampton University and has been working in childcare since 2011. From a young age she knew she wanted to work with young children. Now, Carly's favourite part of her role is seeing their speech develop. Even though she is (usually) office based, the children still know her name, and you’ll often find her reading a story in the comfy area, helping the children at mealtimes or having a dance at the end of the day!

OFSTED – Day Nurseries

Seahorse Nursery Southfields @ACE Graded Ofsted Outstanding November 2018 – click here to read the Ofsted report

Seahorse Nursery Wimbledon Park @WP was registered in June 2018 and will be inspected by Ofsted within approximately 30 months. Harriet Wolfe is the nominated person and went through a rigorous registration process including a site inspection from an Ofsted inspector. We were told that Ofsted will not register any nursery provider unless they are deemed to be at a standard of at least ‘Good’. We are aiming to achieve Outstanding at our first inspection.

As of 17th March 2020, the scheduled and routine inspections undertaken by Ofsted have been suspended due to Covid-19 . Because of this some of our settings may not receive their Ofsted inspection and grading with the usual 30 months (this affects both Wimbledon Park settings). At Seahorse Nursery, we strive to achieve Outstanding across all of our locations. We keep all current and prospective parents updated once we receive information regarding Ofsted and will update our website in due course.

For information from Ofsted regarding the phased return of inspection, see the link below:

Fees (monthly)

Our fees are paid monthly in advance and must be received by the first day of each month . Often a child starts on a date other than the first of the month. In this situation the first payment will be on a pro rata basis , using the daily rate , to the end of the month and thereafter full months will be due on the first of the month. Our fees include : breakfast, lunch, supper, snacks, cow’s milk, nappies, baby wipes, nappy cream and sun cream.

Please email for a copy of our current fees.

Seahorse Nursery offers places out when they become available. We offer nursery places based on:
– Where a sibling attends the nursery
– Where you have requested a transfer for your child from another Seahorse Nursery
– Date of registration (form and receipt of payment)
– Required start date

When a place becomes available you will be contacted and given 48 hours to accept. Once you have accepted a place we send a formal offer letter and you have 5 days to pay the deposit and sign the terms and conditions which secures the Nursery place. The nursery place is only guaranteed if the terms and conditions are signed and returned and the requisite deposit is received within this time.

We require a deposit of one month’s full fees. The deposit is refundable once your child has left the nursery and the final fees due have been paid; our bursar reconciliates your child’s account before the deposit is returned. The deposit is not refundable if you do not take up your child’s place.

Our preferred method of payment is by direct debit.

Payment can also be made by the government Tax Free Childcare system or via manual bank transfer. However, please note, for BACs payment there is an additional administration charge of £5 per month which will be added to your invoice.

Seahorse Nursery accepts payment, via the Childcare Voucher system, in respect of Fees only. Under the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulations we are not allowed to accept vouchers for the Registration fee, deposit or outings etc.

In the event that you would like to serve notice for your child to leave the nursery, or reduce the number of days your child comes to the nursery, we require two months’ notice in writing; or the payment of two months fees in lieu of notice.

CANCELLING or DEFERRING a child’s place prior to a child’s start date
A child’s place is deemed to have been accepted once the Seahorse Nursery terms and conditions have been signed by the parent/guardian and received by the nursery. The deposit is non-refundable if a child’s place is cancelled. If your child has started at the nursery and you wish to serve notice, then the deposit of one month’s fees for a Nursery place is refundable (provided two calendar months’ notice have been given and there are no outstanding payments due to the Nursery). If a parent/guardian would like to defer their child’s start date (having accepted a place and paid the deposit) the following options are available:
a) Continue to pay the fees due for the nursery place to retain it.
b) Cancel the place (your deposit will be retained) and re-join the registration list and wait for a further place to become available. A further place will be offered based on the admission criteria.

Our Nursery is open 51 weeks a year. We are closed for up to five working days over the Christmas period and for all bank holidays. The monthly fees remain the same every month regardless of these holidays which have been built into the daily fees. We also close for two inset days per year to enable whole staff training – these dates will be given in advance.

Seahorse Nursery administers the Government offer of funded (free) early education hours. This totals 570 hours per year for all 3 and 4-year-olds and some 2-year-old children. The free hours are incorporated into the childcare fees. Children who are eligible can take up a place after their second or third birthday on the relevant date shown below.
