A day in the life of a seahorse
We open the door, with a big welcome, from 07:45. Our flexible drop-off policy means you can bring your child to Nursery at any time and if you’re planning to drop off after 09:00, just let us know.
Babies and toddlers are welcomed with a cuddle from one of the team while the parent signs their child in and puts their bag on their peg. We encourage older children to take off their coat and hang it up themselves. They enjoy learning to take responsibility, and adding a routine to their day helps to grow their self-confidence and independence.
Your child will then sit down for breakfast or, if it’s after 08:30, choose a fun activity. A wave goodbye to mum or dad, and their days can really begin! For preschoolers, that could mean a morning at Forest School, while younger ones may enjoy cooking or going on a listening walk.
Daily routines are carefully designed to encourage communication and language development. Varied sessions include daily news and circle time, sensory classes, singing and story time. A balanced mix of self-selected play and planned learning allows for creativity and the introduction of new knowledge. Play times are planned on a weekly basis to meet your child’s individual interests and next steps.
The Seahorse Way is built on introducing Purposeful Play into the lives of children, irrespective of their age. Babies and toddlers enjoy group ‘wake and shake’ sessions as well as yoga, music and other daily activities.
From age 3, we start to teach numeracy and literacy in a fun but structured way – it’s easy to learn when you’re smiling! We also encourage our children to spend time outdoors whenever possible, including trips to the park and tennis sessions.
We always try to engage with children at their level to increase eye contact, improve concentration and aid learning. Sessions are fun, with group singing, rhymes, musical movement and stories.
Our aim is to ensure every child leaves Seahorse ready for school and ready for the World.
